Authorities have arrested a man accused of attempting to shoot former President Donald Trump while he was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, aimed an AK-47 at Trump on Sunday during a round of golf at Trump International Club.

A Palm Beach County sheriff’s vehicle was stationed near the Trump International Golf Club sign in West Palm Beach, Florida, as the FBI investigated an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on Sunday.
The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, has a lengthy criminal history, including a conviction for possessing a weapon of mass destruction over 20 years ago, as reported by News & Record.
Routh’s past also includes a standoff with police in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he barricaded himself in a business after fleeing a traffic stop while armed.
In a 2020 social media post, Routh expressed regret for voting for Trump in 2016, writing, “We all were greatly disappointed” and adding, “I will be glad when you [sic] gone,” as cited by the Daily Mail.

In addition to his anti-Trump rhetoric, Routh was outspoken about the war in Ukraine.
In a 2022 interview with Newsweek Romania, he claimed to be actively recruiting fighters for Ukraine, framing the conflict as “evil against good.”
His social media posts were filled with violent imagery and calls for justice, reflecting his volatile mindset.

During a press conference, Palm Beach Sheriff Ric Bradshaw confirmed that a Secret Service agent spotted Routh’s rifle barrel protruding from behind a fence.
The agent fired at Routh, who fled in a black SUV. A witness captured the vehicle’s license plate, which led to Routh’s arrest.
This marks the second assassination attempt on Trump in just two months.
