The world sure can be loud as all heck sometimes can’t it? I mean, when you really think about it, the last few years there have been a rise in noise cancelling headphones.
I gotta admit, sometimes when I am flying for work I put on a pair of noise cancelling headphones and don’t even put any music on. It’s great for personal comfort to be able to shut the world out and make things a little quieter. It’s a great comfort.
That being said, there are times when blocking out the entire world around your ears is an absolute necessity. I don’t know if you all recall those films in health class where they told us that when you lose hearing it simply doesn’t come back.
It’s why you have to protect your ears from as many overly loud noises as humanly possible.
Which puts those of us in the Second Amendment community into a bit of a pickle. Our main hobby is generally going to the gun range and squeezing off a few rounds from a device that makes REALLY LOUD NOISES!
So, you gotta wear ear protection. It’s practically non-negotiable at most gun ranges. Hell, I have an uncle that goes out shooting in a gun range he built on the back of his property. He’s the only one for miles. If you standing within fifty feet of him when he is shooting he insists you wear hearing protection.
Remember, a gun is a tool. If you’d wear hearing protection when you are using a power drill, you should wear it when you are using a gun.
That being said, what type of hearing protection is the best for you? Well, it all depends on what is your budget range.
For example, if you are on the lower side of the budget range, you can find a pair of Walkers Cloak Duel Mic Elect Muffs for somewhere around forty dollars.
These ones are sound activated compression circuitry, which lowers the noise around you approximately thirty decibels. That is definitely a big help especially when you are out on the range and there’s people firing off rounds every other second.
Those of you that are more technologically inclined might be apt to buy the Walker’s Silencer BT 2.0 Wireless Earbuds, which is what I happen to use.
These things are designed almost exactly like those AirPods that you see people using in just about every situation these days. However, they take the noise cancelling aspect and jack it up all the way to eleven.
The sound cancelling only activates in these things when you are engaging in shooting or some other high decibel activity, in addition to the four separate sound setting. The greatest thing about the Walker’s Silencer BT 2.0 Wireless Earbuds to me is that they are small enough to be discreet.
I mean, I have worn these things while mowing the lawn without any other hearing protection and didn’t even realize the lawn mower was making any noise.
Heck, even out on the gun range my wife was standing next to me yelling at the top of her lungs and I had no idea she was even behind me.
These are two different types of hearing protection that I would use if I were you. It’s all about what kind of budget you have and your needs. Choose wisely!
