This extravagant plan includes securing 1,025 hotel rooms for illegal migrants for a staggering 36 months at a cost of $200 per day, as per a report from Minute Mirror. This outrageous expenditure will amount to an astounding $225 million over three years, all at the expense of taxpayers.
The Roosevelt Hotel, which is owned by Pakistan International Airlines, closed its doors in 2020 due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being currently closed, a few businesses continue to operate storefronts on the ground level. The hotel has yet to reopen, but the city seems to prioritize turning it into a haven for migrants over supporting the revival of the local economy.
Indicating that this ludicrous plan is gaining traction, the New York Post reported that multiple construction crews have been seen entering and exiting the hotel lobby recently. One anonymous contractor, whose company was hired just a week ago to ensure adequate plumbing, disclosed that there is immense pressure to complete the work to make the hotel suitable for habitation. This further underscores the city’s commitment to catering to the needs of illegal migrants, rather than its own citizens.
Although the building is old and requires some attention, the contractor noted that it had functioned as an operational hotel until recently. This raises questions about the wisdom of using such a valuable property to accommodate a wave of migrants, rather than investing in its revitalization for the benefit of the local community and the city’s economy.
