If you’ve ever had to wait for a flight, you are aware of how unusual an experience it is. There are all different kinds of persons to be found. Some people are hunting for food, some are shopping, yet others are hurrying to catch their flights, and still, more are just hanging out. However, have you ever considered residing at an airport?

Well, a Chinese man has reportedly been residing in the Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal for more than ten years and has no intention of going home to his family.

The Chinese guy, Wei Jianguo, relocated to the airport terminal after a disagreement with his family over his drinking and smoking habits. Wei, 60, has reportedly been residing in Terminal 2 of the airport since 2008 and is unemployed but loves living at the airport. He says he can drink and eat at will.

“My family advised me that if I wanted to stay, I needed to stop smoking and drinking,” Wei told the China Daily in an interview. “If I couldn’t do that, I was forced to give them my whole monthly government grant of 1,000 yuan ($150). But how would I get my smokes and drink then?”

He set up a mobile kitchen using an electric cooker he had brought from home. Other times, he would go around the airport to buy the food he likes. Wei claimed that because of his advanced age, he has been unable to obtain employment since being fired from his job when he was in his 40s.

Notably, five or six other people were living in the airport’s terminals, according to a senior sanitation worker who spoke with China Daily. Wei is not the only person who calls the airport his “home.”

Security and sanitation staff at the airport have not objected to their presence.

However, shortly before Christmas of last year, Wei was asked to leave after a video showing him eating noodles in the terminal’s waiting area went viral. But he did so without delay.

He asserted that he took a break for a few days before coming back. The Chinese guy called Wei was quoted by the China Daily as stating, At least I have my freedom in the airport.”
