My father never allowed me to play with toy guns as a kid. Squirt guns, sure. But those ones that looked like a real gun with the orange tip…not once.
His logic was that a gun is supposed to be a tool for a very specific purpose that you should pray that you never have to use but be grateful it is there when you need it. Not something that should be played with.
Those of us who conceal carry know that responsibility that we take on by getting the permits and all that. That one day we might be called upon to defend those around us on a moment’s notice.
To put it in a lighter perspective for a moment it is like when you take the seat in the emergency exit row on an airplane. Sure, you get that little bit of extra legroom for free, but you know that there is a chance that you might have to help people out of the airplane in the event of a disaster.
However, in a world where everyone sues everyone else for any reason possible you need to be ready to legally protect yourself in the event that you have to open fire on someone robbing a grocery store.
Which is why every member of the community with a concealed carry permit needs to also hold a concealed carry insurance policy.
Everyone knows that if you have to use your firearm in a real-world scenario that it’s not like it is in the movies. They don’t just do a summary investigation and let you go on the spot. Even if you were in the right, there are instances where you could be in legal jeopardy.
That’s where the concealed carry insurance comes into play. It is something that will help ensure you get legal aid when you were well within your rights to use your firearm when under the umbrella of the self-defense laws of your state.
Also, this stuff will help you with any civil suits that might come up as a result of having to defend yourself.
Give you an example. I have an uncle that was coming home one night from work and saw this guy breaking into his house. He fired once at the guy, and it missed. The guy was startled by the sound of the bullet and tripped and fell down my uncle’s front steps.
The guy somehow managed to break both his legs falling down a flight of four steps. He ended up suing my uncle on some kind of personal injury grounds. Luckily my uncle had the concealed carry insurance and he was able to get representation that cleared him of any civil wrongdoing.
As you might have seen in the news recently, any kind of civil suit can cost you a good deal of money. It’s why it is best to have protection for after you are cleared by the police.
That being said, there are several excellent concealed carry insurance policies out there so make sure you choose the one that fits you best and your situation.
It’s a sad state of the world that we have to protect ourselves AFTER we protect ourselves, but it is a pretty comforting feeling that if I ever have to discharge my firearm I can do so knowing that someone has my back after all the smoke has cleared.
