Around two-thirds of the People that are essential in assisting Biden in communicating with the American people and outlining the president’s goals for the nation’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, which started under his predecessor had now left their positions as President Joe Biden’s press team, in just a few weeks! Because of the low morale, hard hours, and low pay, people are quitting Biden’s White House in large numbers.
Karine Jean-Pierre, Biden’s new White House press secretary, cracked a joke about the employment turnover rate at a press conference.
Saying, “I promise we will have a press shop. Not everyone is leaving.” Jean-Pierre openly stood up to address the media about it and reassure the American people that Biden will still have a press shop. Although her department has been losing a number of employees over the past few weeks.
A large portion of the change occurred around the time Jen Psaki, Biden’s former press secretary, left her position. However, there are many new people anxious to get their chance to serve in the president’s circle, these movers and shakers are part of a new breed of Washington D.C. aides who are eager to enact change in the world and see progress through to the finish line. Despite the fact that many people have departed their posts.
The new press Secretary Mike Gwin an “indispensable” part of the team will be sorely missed now that he landed another job. As Jean-Pierre did share the “sad news” that rapid response director Mike Gwin was leaving the press department for a new job in Biden’s Treasury Department.
She said, “I know he’s moving on to bigger and better things and only wish him the best at Treasury.”
Calling Michael Kikukawa as “the strong engine and reliable engine at the press shop,” as she said that his “relentless work ethic and dedication to the mission of this team have been second to none,” Jean-Pierre sang his praises on the way out. As Michael Kikukawa is another person leaving the press shop for Biden’s Treasury Department and will serve as a spokesman for the Treasury, which is a step up in his career.
However, the White House is also hiring new ones even though they are losing some good people. Mechelle Smith who was the vice president’s communications director while working for the Obama administration; she contributed to his 2020 presidential campaign as well, would be joining the White House as a deputy press secretary as it was recently announced.
Jean-Pierre said in a statement:
“Mechelle is a trusted advisor and good friend to the Biden family, and we are thrilled to have her on board as part of the White House Communications team,
Her wealth of experience will be an invaluable asset to our operation as we continue working around the clock to keep the American people informed about the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to get this pandemic under control and build our country back better.”
