On Monday, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas speculated that the Democratic Party might nominate former First Lady Michelle Obama as their presidential candidate in 2024, as a replacement for President Joe Biden.
“Here’s the scenario that I think is perhaps the most likely and most dangerous,” Cruz said on his “Verdict with Ted Cruz” podcast. “In August of 2024, the Democrat kingmakers jettison Joe Biden and parachute in Michelle Obama.”

Cruz suggested that by nominating Michelle Obama as their candidate, the Democrats might sidestep challenges associated with selecting among notable political figures such as Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Vice President Kamala Harris, or California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“Barack Obama is already running the Biden administration,” Cruz said. “I think he is already the puppet master, behind this Biden White House, I don’t think Joe Biden is the decision maker. And so, when I see the media turning on Joe Biden right now, I think the odds of Michelle Obama parachuting in in August of 2024 have risen dramatically.”
The senator posits that Michelle Obama could bring cohesion to the Democratic Party by presenting her potential candidacy as “the Obamas saving the day.” He remarked that other Democratic hopefuls might have to “fight it out next time” when they stand “on the same level.”
Cruz isn’t the only one suggesting that Michelle Obama might pursue the presidency. Podcaster Joe Rogan posited that if Michelle Obama were to run in the 2024 election, she could potentially defeat former President Donald Trump.
Although she stated that Biden is “doing a great job,” Michelle Obama refrained from endorsing the incumbent president for a second term when questioned in November 2022.

Throughout 2023, “Meet the Press” has maintained an average viewership of 2.5 million, falling behind ABC’s “This Week” with 2.6 million viewers and CBS’ “Face the Nation” with 2.9 million viewers.
