On Sunday evening, the Pentagon announced Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had transferred power to Deputy Secretary Kathleen Hicks.

This decision came after Austin was hospitalized earlier in the afternoon due to suspected bladder issues.

Initially, the Pentagon had stated that Austin would retain his powers as SecDef.

Austin’s security detail took him to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland on Sunday for treatment.

Unfortunately, Austin is experiencing complications from surgery for prostate cancer which led to a lengthy hospitalization starting in late December.

Surprisingly, he kept his illness and hospitalization a secret from Joe Biden, most of his staff, and the public.

This has sparked calls for his resignation.

Upon returning to the Pentagon in late January, Austin noticeably walked with a limp.
