You can have a stress-free, get-away-from-it-all kind of vacation, or you can stay at the forthcoming immersive Star Wars hotel in the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida. But one thing is increasingly clear: You can’t have both.
Because once you are in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel you’re not allowed to leave after check-in.
And, with everything from lightsaber training to unique character interactions, to tiny cabins, and space food, there’s a whole lot to unpack about the experience.
Yup, the Disney Star Wars Hotel is an immersive three-day, the two-night experience that involves operating a spaceship, going to battle, and much more. The hotel is anything but a vacation – in fact, you’re even given a space communicator that resembles a cell phone for “resistance meetings.”
Similar to an escape room, you have to stay until the experience is complete (you’ll be in space, after all), so prepare for a fun (and perhaps exhausting) 60 hours. The good news is that the hotel has a lounge called the “Silver C” where you can sip on strong adult beverages from around the world and play a few rounds of Sabaac to unwind.
You are basically indoors in the Halcyon Starcruiser for just half of each day. Your first day doesn’t even begin until 1 p.m. for check in, and the second day you spend the morning outside in the themed land of Batuu. The “climate simulator” outdoor garden is a peaceful place to dip into at any hour of the day when you need a reset.
The only odd thing to me was that you won’t wake up with any natural light, your stateroom gets very dark when you close your window to space and turn off all the lights.
Accoriding to AWM, guests will be among the first to experience a new lightsaber “created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development.”
According to a Disney Parks Blog post:
“Guests who experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see it in action – along with so much more – starting in 2022 when this amazing new two-night adventure debuts. Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds.”
The blog post continues:
“When the Launch Pod’s airlock slides open, you’ll take your first step into a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser comes to life all around you. During your stay aboard this glamorous ship, you may interact with an eclectic group of characters both familiar and new, possibly including the starcruiser’s strong and charismatic captain, a plucky ship’s mechanic, and a galactic superstar who can captivate an entire room with the crook of one jewel-encrusted purple Twi’lek finger.”
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Resort is not open for the general public to visit. This is unlike any other hotel at Walt Disney World, and even the DCL comparison doesn’t do it full justice. A docked ship that would have amenities and facilities that overlap with a standard hotel, but this won’t have things like a pool, spa, tennis courts, or literally any outdoor recreation options.
The Galactic Starcruiser is more like a long-form, multi-part attraction or on-board cruise excursion. Think of it along those lines–it’s an immersive experience…that’s so long it offers a place to sleep, too.
