Mayim Bialik will no longer grace the “Celebrity Jeopardy!” podium in the forthcoming season.
The torch is being passed to Ken Jennings, who will now oversee hosting responsibilities. Bialik’s departure is tied to her stand with the ongoing Hollywood writers strike, as she chooses to step away from the show, a decision highlighted by Variety.
After the lamentable passing of Alex Trebek, the game show unveiled both Bialik and Jennings as the new co-hosts.
The ambiance shifted when Jennings, a previous “Jeopardy!” victor, was put under scrutiny for proceeding with recordings for the upcoming season during the writers’ strike.
A vocal critic on X, once known as Twitter, admonished Jennings, saying: “You’re a disgrace if you’re trying to cross picket lines. Alex [Trebek] would NEVER do anything of the sort. He would turn over his grave seeing you act like that.”

Seeking to clear the air, Jennings shared a screenshot of an official statement that had been shared with The Hollywood Reporter: “‘Jeopardy!’ has a long history with and tremendous respect for the WGA and our writers. We have always been careful to honor our WGA agreement, and we would never air game material not created by WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) writers.”
Drawing attention to a specific segment of the statement, Jennings hinted that his choices were in line with those Trebek might have made: “However, just as we did, led by Alex Trebek, during the 2007-2008 strike, we will deliver first-run episodes again this fall to more than 200 affiliate stations nationwide.”
Subsequent plans, as stated, were to “go into a holding pattern of sorts, pushing back the season 39 postseason to first produce original episodes featuring the best of our WGA written material.”
Earlier in July, it was disclosed that the awaited 39th season of the Tournament of Champions would not grace screens this fall. Rather, the regular episodes would repurpose previous clues to craft new content.
The writers’ strike has been active since early May.
When Bialik and Jennings were ceremoniously introduced as hosts, the blueprint was for Bialik to take charge of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and other specific tournaments. Jennings, on the other hand, was slated for the Tournament of Champions.
Michael Davies, at the show’s helm as the executive producer, expressed his excitement on X: “Please join us in welcoming the official co-hosts of Jeopardy!, @kenjennings and @missmayim! We couldn’t be more thrilled.”
He further elaborated, pointing to a link on the show’s official site, about the duo’s impending roles: “In Mayim and Ken, we have two outstanding hosts at the beginning of their ‘Jeopardy!’ hosting careers who connect with their own unique fanbases, new fans, and the traditional Jeopardy! viewer.”
Detailing the roadmap, Davies unveiled: “Ken will kick off the season in September, host the inaugural Second Chance competition and the heavily anticipated Tournament of Champions… His initial hosting run will take us through December.”
Meanwhile, “Mayim will host ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ on ABC in primetime. When she takes over from Ken in January, the current plan is to have her host a couple of new tournaments as well as the ‘Jeopardy!’ National College Championship and as many weeks as she can manage with her other primetime commitment to ‘Call Me Kat.’”
Emphasizing the show’s dedication to consistency, Davies ended by noting, “We know you value consistency, so we will not flip flop the hosts constantly and will keep you informed about the hosting schedule.”
