According to the Houston Police Department, on Tuesday, after attempting to rob two businesses, including a gun store, the suspect was shot and killed by an employee.

Around 3:17 pm, the event was reported. at Carter’s Country, which is situated on the Southwest Freeway and 11800 South Wilcrestt Drive.

Witnesses told police that the man tried to take some goods from the Suit Mart next door before he entered the gun store.

Witness Marcus Fomby said, “The guy looked like he was a homeless person, Basically, they told him to just let go of the jeans or we’ll call the police.”

The man allegedly entered the gun store with a sharp object after leaving the Suit Mart empty-handed, opened the cash register, and grabbed the money. As the suspect was exiting the shop, the employee claimed to have shot him in self-defense.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said, “Once he went there [the gun shop], he actually went behind the counter [and] started ruffling through the cash register,”

“He was confronted by one of the employees, at that point, one of the employees felt in fear of their safety and fired two shots, at least one struck,” Crowson added.

The employee who shot the suspect told police they feared for their life.

Before passing out in the parking area outside, the culprit fled while leaving a bloody trail.

He was discovered and sent to a local hospital where he was later declared dead by the police when they arrived.

Both the victim who died and the store employee who shot him went unnamed.

Despite claiming that the event was caught on security tape, the police withheld it while they looked into it.

Founded in Houston in the 1960s, Carter’s Country Outdoor Stores is a family-run network comprising four retail locations plus a shooting range.

According to the company’s website, it also provides commercially guided hunting trips in Texas and Colorado.

A bold, morning heist took place in Carter’s Country in 2016. More than 50 guns were taken during the robbery by criminals.

The thieves were captured on camera pulling up to the store in a black Ford F-250 pickup truck, chaining the door to the truck’s rear, and yanking the door off its hinges.

After that, they looted the shop, smashed display cases, and took handguns and rifles.

Within days, police broke up the ring.
