Why A Florida Woman Is Suing Kraft Foods Is The Nuttiest Thing You’ll Ever….

In what suit decries as deceptive advertising, Amanda Ramirez, Hialeah, Florida woman is suing Kraft Heinz with a $5M suit over the cooking time of Velveeta Macaroni and Cheese.

Because the “Ready in 3 1/2 minutes” promise on the box does not take into account the time it takes to open the box, add water, stir, and then add the cheese sauce after 3 1/2 minutes in the microwave, a Florida lady is suing the makers of Velveeta Shells & Cheese microwaveable cups.

However, the name of the law firm was not listed in the suit. But Amanda Ramirez of Hialeah is named as the lead plaintiff in the complaint, on November 18 in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the class-action lawsuit was then filed by a West Palm Beach-based law firm.

The lawsuit states, “Consumers seeing ‘ready in 3 ½ minutes’ will believe it represents the total amount of time it takes to prepare the Product. Meaning from the moment it is unopened to the moment it is ready for consumption.”

As Ramirez looks to bold statements of value when quickly selecting groceries … like many consumers who seek to stretch their money as far as possible when buying groceries, she bought the cups for a ‘premium price’ of $10.99, the suit says. Apparently leaning in the “time is money” aphorism.

By asserting that “deceptive advertising is deceptive advertising,” one of Ramirez’s attorneys, Will Wright, responded via email to criticism that the lawsuit is “cheesy.”

“There are a lot of people that may feel this is just a little fibbing and not really a case and I get that. But we are striving for something better. We want corporate America to be straightforward and truthful in advertising their products,” he said.

Saying that it was aware of this frivolous lawsuit and will strongly defend against the allegations in the complaint, the company said in a statement.
