A 21-year-old has voiced her concerns over nobody taking her seriously as a mom because of her young age. Now, she took to TikTok to share that she’s a parent to a 15-year-old, and with such an age gap, her audience had been left baffled. In a clip that has since gone viral, Hunter Nelson shared her worries over her new parenting role.
The username @hunterenelson was Hunter used to share the truth about her shocking family makeup in Tiktok. She said in it: “Me driving down the road and realizing I’m 21 with a 15-year-old. No other parents or staff members at her HS are gonna [sic] take me seriously. I can already feel people asking me what grade I’m in when I go to her events. How am I going to teach her how to drive when I can barely get down the road?”
She’s concerned that people aren’t taking her seriously, especially as she graduated high school three years ago and she wanted to help and inspire others in similar situations by sharing her experience.
However, hearing this left many people with questions. In particular, Hunter’s relationship with the teen after doing the math and working out that if she were the biological mom, she would have been aged 6 when she gave birth.
“So you had her when you were 6? I’m so confused.” One person asked. Another added: “WERE SIX WHEN YOU HAD A BABY.”
Another person confessed, “I’ve never raced to the comments so fast.”
“I hope this is satire ’cause it’s not clicking for me,” another comment reads.
Explaining her response to the common question she kept getting: “How I had a baby at six years old,” Hunter shared a video update, clearing up the confusion. “The easy answer to that question is that I did not have a baby when I was six. I recently filed for guardianship of my sister because our dad passed away in 2015, and her mom passed away a few months ago. And I thought the best way to keep my sister safe and happy and have all her needs and wants met was to move a couple of states over and come live with me,” Hunter explained.
It turned out Hunter got legal guardianship of her younger sister, Gracie. But a smile on her sibling’s lips was enough to brighten her day, as Hunter made it clear that she was happy to do this for her sister.
“I am twenty-one, and I’m a full-time college student. And a full-time worker. But I still put her needs ahead of my own. I am sitting in my car right now while all of my friends are hanging out because she has cheer practice, and I don’t want to leave her,” she said.
