Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made a surprise appearance at the Global Citizen music festival in New York City. Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas introduced Pelosi, and she began to rant about climate change.
Two sentences in the boos started, and then her voice quivered.
“As speaker of the house, I am here to thank you for your dazzling advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking, and determination as global citizens,” she told the crowd, according to the New York Post.
“It’s thanks to your help that the United States recently enacted historic climate legislation, which will be a game changer,” she added, being drowned out by the crowd. “It will slash carbon pollution by 40% by 2030, it will give a historic, an historic $370 billion to fight the climate crisis.”
The California representative can also be heard calling for “better water and air for our children” and “better-paying jobs and lower energy bills for their parents.”
The crowd continued to react loudly to her comments.
A few tried to start cheers for Pelosi, but the crowd didn’t have it. They were there for the music, not a lecture from a billionaire who probably used a private jet to travel to the city.
The event took place 40 days before the November midterms, and even in New York City, people weren’t happy with the Democrat party. Pelosi thought she was in a room full of like-minded people but was sorely mistaken. In order to attend the festival, concert-goers must perform some type of action for their community. Some get petitions signed, work with local leaders, and organize charitable events in their community. The musical bands for the festival perform for free.
Pelosi assumed she was in a room with a bunch of Democrat activists.
Even if she was, there is no denying the Speaker of the House was booed off the stage.
