A teen in Canada who was recently suspended from the Catholic high school he attends because he spoke out against so-called transgenderism has now reportedly been arrested for trying to return to school.
Josh Alexander was arrested at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew, Ontario on Monday after showing up for class following a suspension in November over his objection to the school’s transgender policies.
The 16-year-old is a devout Christian, according to the Daily Mail. He told other students that he believed there are only two genders, that students can’t switch between male and female, and that if someone is born male, he should not be allowed into the girls’ bathroom.
The school accused Alexander of refusing to use transgender students’ chosen names which got him suspended. Officials said he could only return to school if he agreed to sit out two classes attended by trans students because they found his views offensive.
“I was arrested and charged with trespassing today,” Alexander said. “I chose to attend school regardless of an unlawful exclusion order. I respectfully declined multiple demands to leave class.”
“The entire class was dismissed while the staff handled my situation,” the boy continued. “Shortly after, Ontario Provincial Police arrived and asked me to leave. Once again, I respectfully declined and they arrested me.”
Josh’s attorney, James Kitchen, the chief litigator for Liberty Coalition Canada (LCC), said that Alexander’s decision to go back to school today was “an intelligent choice of a young man who knows what he is doing.”
According to 100PercentFedUp, Kitchen defended Josh’s right to express himself and criticized the school’s woke, yet highly discriminatory, agenda.
“Under the guise of ‘safety,’ as that term has been revised by woke gender activists now pervasive in public institutions, Josh has been penalized for expressing his Christian beliefs regarding gender and modesty, beliefs which also happen to align with both objective truth and actual safety,” Kitchen said in a statement. “Josh not only has a right to express himself during class discussions and through public forums, he also has a right not to be discriminated against by his school for his sincere religious beliefs. Being suspended and excluded from attending classes in the height of discrimination.”
Alexander told the National Post that,
“Freedom one taken for granted is lost. Freedom of religion is probably one of our most important freedoms so I’m not going to surrender it in the face of persecution.”
“It just goes to show how little freedom of expression we have in our country,” the brave teenager added. “I think I used to be seen as a Christian kid following my beliefs, but now apparently I’m the rebel.”
Kitchen noted that Alexander’s arrest was “not entirely unexpected.”
“Did we know he might get arrested? Well, of course we did,” said Kitchen.
“Today was not entirely unforeseen. If they’re [the school] going to continue to double down and enforce that discrimination, yes, they’re going to arrest him.”
Sadly, the United States is headed in the exact same direction, if we aren’t already there yet.
