Ohio Republican and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan criticized the Democrats on the panel after they refused to attend a hearing on border security in Yuma, Arizona. Jordan expressed his disappointment over the situation, highlighting the severity of the issue at hand, with millions of people illegally crossing into the country and fentanyl being smuggled in from Mexico, killing tens of thousands of Americans annually.
House Democrats claimed that there was no consultation with Judiciary Democrats who had already committed to attending other bipartisan congressional delegation trips. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) commented, “Instead of focusing on real solutions to a complicated problem, Judiciary Republicans will once again not hear from any federal government witnesses at their hearing, further cementing this hearing as a brazen act of political grandstanding.”
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) also added that as a result, Democrats, who have been to the border regularly in the last few years, would not attend next week’s performative hearing.
Jordan pushed back and expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s a shame that not one Democrat member of Congress would join us on this trip, despite having weeks of advance notice.” He argued that the hearing was not a stunt and that their witnesses wouldn’t call it a stunt, and added, “What we’ve learned today from them, what we’ve seen last night on the border.”
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) also commented on the situation, calling the Democrats’ decision to miss the hearing a “message of disrespect” to Americans.
Dr. Robert Trenschel, from the Yuma Regional Medical Center, who has reportedly provided over $26 million in uncompensated care to migrants in one year, expressed concern about the unsustainable burden that the hospital is bearing for migrant healthcare. He stated that no business or service could survive ongoing large-scale expenses without any offsetting revenue.
Jordan believes that there has been a seismic shift regarding allegations against President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Jordan suggested “something is up” with the probe because of a new interest in the story by many of the same media outlets that initially dismissed reports of corruption evidence stemming from materials and emails obtained from a laptop that Hunter Biden reportedly abandoned at a computer repair store in Delaware in 2019.
Jordan continued to question the FBI’s role in elections and the government’s weaponizing of power against the people. He referred to incidents that occurred in 2016 when the FBI went after Trump’s campaign, and in 2018, when it was a Mueller investigation.
In 2020, they suppressed the Hunter Biden story, and in 2022, they raided his home. He also referred to the recent naming of Jack Smith as the special counsel, who has a record of weaponizing the government to go after the people.
Jordan further alleged that Joe Biden was involved, stating, “So, my, how this story has changed. And now, we find out these text messages and emails that link the entire family, not just Hunter and Joe, but also uncle Joe’s brother, James Biden, is involved in this as well.”
