No matter where you reside, it’s almost inevitable that you’ll have a disagreement or two with your neighbors. Even if they’re the friendliest folks around, there are bound to be issued, particularly concerning property boundaries and shared spaces. However, a family in Britain faced a long-standing problem with their neighbors, who constantly trespassed and destroyed their fence. In response, the family took a drastic measure: they built a concrete fence to protect their property.
A family member recounted their story on Reddit, explaining how a neighbor drove over their fence with a truck full of wood. This prompted the Redditor’s father, a police officer, to take decisive action and construct a concrete barrier to prevent any future fence destruction.
The Reddit user described the situation:
“We live in a small private neighborhood; the neighbors are related to us more or less (distant relatives). Everybody here is a complete nutjob. They were constantly arguing over decades before me, or my brother was even born. Our property line is kinda like a square, and it is surrounded by road from two sides. Keep in mind that on one part of the road, we let our neighbors use 1 square meter of the land so they could use the road safer and not damage our property.”
Upon discovering that the neighbors had deliberately damaged their fence, the family decided to retaliate by giving the inconsiderate neighbor a taste of their own medicine.
Determined to do more than before, the police officer’s father filled the disputed corner of the property with barrels full of rocks. However, the neighbors persisted in running over the family’s fence for an entire year. It was at this point that the father decided to escalate his response.
“My dad was furious, and he changed his petty revenge into pro-revenge. He cut some wood to use it as a mold. He bought cement, sand, and metal poles. One peaceful afternoon my father and I cemented that whole part of the land and placed some lovely flowers on top. So when they hit the concrete, they can smell our flowers of victory/defeat.”
Within a short period, eight neighbors crashed their cars into the concrete barrier. Surprisingly, none of them complained to the police officer.
The Reddit user wrote, “They were constantly arguing that we don’t do a good job of maintaining the road. They would much rather criticize us than help us.”
By coming up with an innovative solution, the family put an end to the neighbors’ destruction of their property. Now, those neighbors have to face the consequences of damaging their cars if they continue to use the area as a shortcut.
