Break-Action Brilliance: Exploring the CVA Scout

Uncategorized

It used to seem that at one point or another, every adult male in my family owned a break-action rifle.

However, with the disappearance of a couple of key brands, one of those being Thompson/Center it seems for a while that the break-action design was going the way of an honest politician or the dodo.

Which is why I am thankful that Connecticut Valley Arms is making sure that this time tested design is not going gentle into that good night.

Which brings me to the CVA Scout 350, which I had the opportunity to fire when visiting my father a couple of weeks ago.

Dad is getting close to eighty years old, and has owned a rifle for almost his entire adult life. He grew up in Florida when the spots that were amusement parks now were still just swamps. Even when you went fishing you had to bring a rifle with you in case the alligators decided to fight you over which fish the two of you wanted to bring home.

Anyway, he was really excited to show off his CVA Scout 350 and I have to say I was pretty impressed.

The break-action design made the weapon extremely easy to load and unload. The design itself also makes the gun extremely reliable in the field. It can also be disassembled relatively easily into two parts if you need the extra few inches of trunk space when traveling.

I can tell you from decades of hunting with my father that he uses every last inch of space in his truck so something that can be broken down easily ensures that all our stuff will get to the hunting camp and we’ll get there without complaining of severe back pain.

The stock of the CVA Scout 350 is made from a really reliable and durable synthetic material that allows you to carry the rifle when weather conditions are less than ideal.

The trigger on the CVA Scout 350 is one of the crispest triggers I have ever seen.

The one main drawback is that being a single-shot rifle it might not be the best when it comes to situations where you will need to make rapid follow up shots. With this one, it’ll take down your target, but if you miss, it is going to take you a second to get that next shot ready.

The tradeoff to that is that the gun itself is extremely accurate and barring someone in your hunting party sneezing as you are about to pull the trigger; you’ll hit whatever you are aiming at.

The CVA Scout 350 is a well-designed rifle that is extremely versatile. As a matter of fact, my mom sort of let it slip that Dad was going to be getting me one for my birthday coming up in a couple of weeks.

I’m beyond excited.
