Bulletproof? Teen Body Armor Test Goes Horribly Wrong

A South Carolina teen has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after police say she accidentally shot and killed a friend who was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said the victim Blake Wardell, 26, found an old bullet-proof vest early on Wednesday morning. He then put it on and asked his friend Taylor Kelly, 18, to shoot him.

Kelly fired a shot at him from a handgun, but the bullet missed the kevlar panel of the vest and traveling through the lining into Wardell’s heart.

People at the scene performed CPR on Wardell, and paramedics were called, but to no avail.

Kelly was detained and faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.

Investigators say they found no evidence of heavy alcohol or drug use at the scene of the crime.
